The changing Room

The Changing Room is a proposal-driven initiative for Aotearoa-based artists. Each year, it offers three dedicated solo exhibitions of newly commissioned artworks.

The purpose of this initiative is to provide more domestic opportunities for emerging to mid-career practitioners who are looking to realise bold, ambitious and site-specific projects. Through The Changing Room, Gus Fisher Gallery furthers its support of artists and its commitment to supporting transformative contemporary art projects. The idea takes inspiration from the history of Gallery 2 as a former changing room for radio and television presenters during the building’s broadcasting era.

Gus Fisher Gallery advertises for The Changing Room once a year with the open-call usually timed around August/September for the following year. See below for details of the artists selected for 2026. The artists are chosen through an open-call process and selected by two esteemed Elam Alumni.

The Changing Room 2026 is supported by The Chartwell Trust. Artists exhibiting in The Changing Room 2026, selected by Owen Connors and Ngahuia Harrison are: Rangi White (Rongomaiwahine, Ngāti Rakaipaaka), Lucy Meyle (Aotearoa) and Frances Libeau (Aotearoa).
